B.K.S. Iyengar

BKS IyengarThe name Iyengar comes from Yogacharya BKS Iyengar, an internationally renowned living Yoga Master who developed his innovative and inspirational approach to hatha yoga after years of dedicated practice and teaching, and study of classical yoga and medical science. Iyengar's  approach comes out of the lineage of his teacher, Shri T. Krishnamacharya, a classically trained Hindu scholar and yoga master. Iyengar has guided this ancient art in being transmitted on an international scale, and though he is often credited for popularizing Yoga in the West, he has not compromised the purity of its original teachings. Mr. Iyengar turned 90 in December 2008, and continues to teach with his daughter Geeta and son Prashant at the Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India. He is the author of many classic texts on Yoga some of which include Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, The Tree of Yoga. See "bibliography" on this page.
